This post contains everything you should need to know about tag nominations.
If you are confused about anything, don't hesitate to comment or message a mod with a question!
The first tagset, Histories Ficathon, contains all the fandom, character and relationship tags for the History plays and historical RPF. This is where you nominate any character or relationship tags you wish to request. It is a large collection already as the mods attempted to add all the pre-existing canonical tags when setting it up and it contains nominated tags from previous ficathons. If the character or relationship tags you wish to request are already there, you don’t need to nominate them. Unfortunately, there is no quick and easy way to check if a tag is already there so if you’re unsure if your desired tag is already part of the tagset, you can get in contact with a mod or nominate it just in case.
You are allowed to nominate 20 characters and 20 relationships in this tag. We are not accepting nominations for fandom tags (that is, the canon or source material) at the moment.
Instead of using AO3’s canonical fandom tags of 14th Century RPF, 15th Century RPF and 16th Century RPF, we have made our own custom fandom tags to break these rather broad tags into smaller sections that better reflect the variety of interests in the ficathon.
These tags are:
These custom tags are for the sign-ups, to be used when writing your offers and requests. You do not need to use them when posting your fic. When you are posting fic, we highly recommend using the appropriate AO3 canonical tags (i.e. 14th Century RPF, 15th Century RPF and 16th Century RPF).
We understand that the divisions between each time period are arbitrary and that the end of each “period” blends with the beginning of the next. Despite this, we do consider it most useful to consider the Battle of Bosworth as the “end” of the Wars of the Roses and the accession of Henry VII as the beginning of the Tudor era, not least because this worked for Shakespeare and most requests for Tudor RPF have been for Henry VII’s reign.
The second tagset, Histories Ficathon Crossovers, is for those who wish to request or offer crossovers with medieval and early-modern texts. You may nominate fandom, character and relationship tags here. If you do not intend to request or offer a crossover, you do not need to worry about this tagset.

Tag Nominations
- The ficathon has two tag sets, one for crossovers specifically and the other for everything else.
- These tag sets are, per AO3, “bundles of tags” (for fandoms, characters and relationships) that allow us to include both AO3’s “canonical” tags and to create new tags that haven’t been deemed canonical on AO3.
- If the tags you want to use in your requests or offers do not appear in the tagsets, you may nominate them by going to the relevant tagset and clicking “Nominate” (if you’ve nominated tags previously, click “My Nominations” and then “Edit”). Fill out the form and mods will then approve them..
- More detail is provided for each tagset’s section.
- Relationship tags can be either romantic/sexual, as marked by a “/”(e.g. Henry "Hotspur" Percy/Kate Percy) or gen/platonic, as marked by a “&” (e.g. Edward IV of England & Cecily Neville Duchess of York). Please make sure you’re using the correct format!
- Both tagsets are open for nominations and will remain open throughout signups. Mods will approve the tags as soon as possible and provide a running log on the Discord server and Dreamwidth community.

These tags are:
- 12th Century RPF
- Late Plantagenet England RPF, covering the lives and reigns of Edward III and Richard II
- Lancastrian England RPF, covering the reigns of Henry IV and Henry V, plus the minority of Henry VI
- Wars of the Roses RPF, covering the reigns of Henry VI, Edward IV and Richard III
- 14th and 15th Century France RPF
- Tudor and Shakespearean England RPF – from the advent of the Tudors with Henry VII’s accession to Shakespeare’s day and age

Nominating
- You can nominate up to 20 character tags and up to 20 relationship tags.
- AO3 requires that you associate each nominated tag with a fandom and limits you to only one fandom tag when you do so.
- We know this isn’t ideal since several fandom tags can be equally associated with a single character or relationship tag (e.g. Humphrey of Lancaster, Duke of Gloucester appears in three Shakespeare plays and lived through three of the eras that our RPF tags cover). The simplest option is to associate your nominated tag with the fandom most relevant to your intended request and, if you’d like the tag associated with other fandoms, contact the mods.
- N.B. some of our fandom tags are “non-canonical”, meaning they won’t appear in the drop down menu when you start typing. Please use our fandoms when nominating.
- Relationship tags can be either romantic/sexual, as marked by a “/” (e.g. Henry "Hotspur" Percy/Kate Percy) or gen/platonic, as marked by a “&” (e.g. Edward IV of England & Cecily Neville Duchess of York). Please make sure you’re using the correct format!
- There are no restrictions on what relationships are allowed. The only reason we reject tags is if they’re already in the tagset under a different name (e.g. “Arthur of Brittany” was rejected because “Arthur I of Brittany” was already part of the tagset) or they are outside the remits of the ficathon.
- We keep tag nominations open throughout sign-ups. It is best to nominate any tags you want or need before you start filling in the sign-up form. That said, it isn’t always possible to know what tags you need until you’re mid-signup.
