Offers
- Offers are where you tell the mods what you’d like to or are willing to write in exchange for receiving one of your requests as a fic.
- You are required to make two offers and allowed to enter up to twenty.
- We generally recommend that each offer represents one fandom due to the potential confusion. e.g. if someone says they won't write "Richard III as evil" but have tagged Richard III - Shakespeare and Wars of the Roses RPF as the fandoms they'll write for, it’s hard to tell whether they mean they won’t write evil!Richard III at all which would mean they can’t write Shakespeare fic or could only write “Richard III was actually good” AUs of Shakespeare or will only write evil!Richard for Shakespeare fic.
- However, we do recognise that some fandom tags do overlap and it can be easier and quicker for someone to tag multiple fandoms in the one offer. However, you are limited to three (3) fandom tags per offer.
- We ask that you tag all the characters and relationships you are open to writing about and use the description box to specify which characters and relationships you are most comfortable writing about or would prefer to write about.
- Alternatively, instead of tagging all the characters or relationships you’re willing to write, you can check the box that reads “Any Character” or “Any Relationship”. This means that you are saying that you would write fills for any characters and relationships in the fandom(s) tagged. Please make sure that this is something you are comfortable with because any means any. e.g. if you select “any” for Henry VI – Shakespeare, you may be matched with someone wanting fic about events of Henry VI, Part One when you’re only comfortable writing about Henry VI, Part Three.
- If there are characters or relationships you would like to write for but are not listed in the tagset, please nominate them. Mods will approve them ASAP.
- Please try to be as broad as possible in your offers, i.e. every offer shouldn’t be for one pairing only or one scenario only.
- If you are offering fic for a particular relationship, please make sure you have also tagged all the characters in the relationship.
- Do not offer to write for plays you have not seen or read unless you are intending to watch/read the play over the course of the ficathon.
- AO3 limits the exchange to 20 tags per tag category so if you run out of space in your offer, continue in a fresh offer.
- While we encourage you to be broad in your offers, we do understand that there are particular scenarios, characters or relationships you would like to especially write for. You can make a note of what you would most like to write in the description box and mods will try to find you your ideal match. However, the smallness of the fandom and the huge variety in interests means we cannot guarantee it.
- Please be clear about what you are willing and not willing to write. You will not be asked to write anything you haven’t tagged or mentioned in your offers but it is always better to err on the side of caution and mention anything you don’t want to write. Additionally, if you say you will fill “anything” or “anything in reason”, you may find yourself tasked with filling a prompt you do not want to fill as what seems reasonable to your recipient or to the mods may seem unreasonable to you, or vice versa.
- The things you do not want to write should be clear and easy for the mods to understand and act on. It’s always better to be specific than too broad.
- AO3 allows the mods access to your AO3 account’s email address but if you would prefer to be contacted on different email or through private message on Discord or Tumblr, please leave these contact details in your first offer. Your offers are not visible to anyone except the mods and mods will only contact you if necessary.
- Your offers are not visible to anyone but the mods so feel free to be open about what you’re willing and not willing to write. However, it is enough to tell us this, you don’t need to explain why or emphasise how you feel about receiving such prompts.
- Please indicate if you are willing to write a pinch-hit (that is, if it appears that someone is going to miss out on receiving a fic, you might be asked to write a fill for them in addition to your assigned prompt – we will not ask you to pinch hit except in an emergency, nor will we ask you to write a pinch-hit that is outside of your offers).
- You are able to edit and add your offers until sign-ups close.
The Offer Form
Title: you don’t have to enter a title but this might be a useful place to sum up what your offer is for. For instance, if offering to write Wars of the Roses RPF, you can allude to the figures or era you’re most interested in.
Fandom: select 1 to 3 fandoms from the options given. We do prefer that each offer focuses on one fandom only to avoid potential confusion but if you do choose two options, please ensure they link in some way to each other. e.g. if you’re offering to cover anything relating to Shakespeare’s take on the Wars of the Roses, you might select both Henry VI and Richard III, or if you’re willing to write anything about the play or the historical events, you might select both Richard II and Late Plantagenet England.
Characters: you can manually enter all the characters you’re willing to write about (minimum of 2, maximum of 20) and/or select “any character”.
Relationships: you can manually enter all the relationships you’re willing to write about (minimum of 2, maximum of 20) and/or select “any relationship”.
- As mentioned above, it’s really important that you tag everything you’re willing to write about as matching is done through AO3’s algorithm, which recognises tags.
- For both characters and relationships, you can choose to manually enter tags as well as selecting “any”. You might choose to do this because you’re willing to write anything for the fandom but there aren’t many tags associated with it, in anticipation of more tags being added after you’ve finished your sign-up, or as a way of indicating what you most prefer to write about (i.e. “I’ve tagged the characters I most want to write about but I’m happy writing anything”).
- As stated above, it’s best that your offers aren’t focused entirely on the one scenario, pairing or characters. It’s fine if it’s, for example, one offer out of four where you’re saying, “anything about this character and pairing, but only this character and pairing” but saying “I will only write this pairing” for every offer you make can make it incredibly difficult to match you.
Description: This is where you put any additional information about what you’d like to write, what you’re willing to write and what you won’t write. What you put here is up to you – it can be as long or as short as you feel speaks to you – but we’ve provided a guide, breaking it down into sections, in case you want or need one.
- Opening: tell us what you’re feeling about this offer! It might be helpful to think about this in comparison to your other offers (“this is the offer I’d most like to fill” or “I’d prefer to write for my other offers but I’m willing to write about this”) or the fandom (“I’m most familiar with Henry VI, Part 3 so I’d prefer to be matched with that, though I can write for Parts 1 and 2 if needed”). This can also be a place to add caveats to your offer (“I’m only offering to write about these characters in this context”).
- What you’d most like to write: this can be a few lines or a short list about what you’d most like to write (“I’m most interested in writing about these relationships and these characters”, “I’d love to write something exploring this theme”).
- What you’re willing to write: this can be a list or a few lines that gives the mods a sense of what prompts are best suited to you. This can include things like ratings, tropes, genres, themes, AUs, content, particular readings of the fandom, characters and relationship, specific productions, and more. A short example: historical detail, hurt/comfort, modern AUs, themes relating to the body politic, whump, daddy issues, anything involving medieval ideas of queerness, dark themes, explicit fic.
- What you’re NOT willing to write: this might be best considered a Do Not Want section for your offers and our guide to that section is also relevant here. Again, this can be a list or a few lines where you tell the mods the things you don’t want to write and/or don’t think you’d be good at writing. It’s best to be as specific and clear as possible here. As above, this can include things like rating, tropes, genres, themes, AUs, content, particular readings of the fandom, characters and relationship, specific productions, and more. A short example could include a list consisting of: character death, sexual violence, content above the Mature rating, superhero AUs, Richard II as evil, anything based off The Hollow Crown.
- Productions you’re familiar with: while you don’t have to include this, it can be helpful to list the specific productions you’re familiar with and willing to write for in case we have requests based on that specific production.
- Anything else: if you’d prefer to be contacted in a specific way, if you’re willing to pinch hit, if there’s anything you want to tell the mods that might impact on matching you.
Reminders:
- Your offers are not viewable to anyone but the mods so feel free to be open about what you’re willing and not willing to write. You do not need to explain why or emphasise how you feel about them.
- You are able to edit and add your offers until sign-ups close.
- If you are not matchable after initial matching is run, mods will contact you to add more offers.
Example Offer
Fandom: Wars of the Roses RPF. Richard III – Shakespeare
Characters:Any Characters, Elizabeth Woodville, Edward IV of England, Richard III of England, Anne Neville Queen of England
Relationships:Any Relationships
Description:This is my Roman Empire. I’ve tagged the characters I’d most like to write about but I’m willing to write absolutely anything in this fandom.
Would most like to write: things set during the later Wars of the Roses, i.e. the years around Edward IV’s final years and Richard III’s usurpation and reign. I also really enjoy incorporating historical knowledge into the plays so if there are any requests for that, please send them my way!
Also willing to write: I’m happy to write anything from say, the Battle of Wakefield on, my knowledge of everything before that is a bit blurry and I’m not as well-read on those years so the less historical knowledge required the better!
Not willing to write: anyone but Richard III murdering the Princes, crack, canon-divergence AU, explicit fic, Elizabeth of York/Richard III
Familiar with: The Hollow Crown: The Wars of the Roses, the BBC Shakespeare Collection Richard III
Willing to write a pinch-hit: yes
I don’t check my AO3 email that often so message me on my tumblr stupidsexyfalstaff if you need to get in contact with me
